Wisdom Keys for Building Healthy Families

In today’s stressful world, families are under incredible pressure. However, since healthy families are society’s greatest assets, keeping them together must be a top priority.

If practiced, these keys will keep your family strong so that you can weather all of life’s storms.

We celebrate each other’s value.

Strive to appreciate each person’s uniqueness. While conflicts can occur in relationships, always recognize that God can restore peace into any situation. So pray for peace in your household and if strife occurs, pray that God reveal to you what you can do to restore serenity.

We demonstrate kindness to each other.

Remember, love is both a feeling and an action. Turn your feelings into action by speaking good words to uplift your family and do nice things for them. The bible says, "The wise woman builds her house but the foolish pulls it down with her hands" (Proverbs 14:1). Kindness should be a cornerstone in your house.

We forgive one another.

According to the bible, “The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression” (Proverbs 19:11). Take this wisdom to heart by being quick to forgive. It’s okay to acknowledge that you are hurt, but it is not okay for you to remain unforgiving. It hardens your heart. Instead look to God. Just as he forgave you, so you should forgive others.

We praise God together.

Spiritual disciplines like praise, worship, and prayer keep you secure in God’s love. As you become filled with His love, you increase your capacity to give love.

One of wisest investments you can make is building healthy families. Recognize that as a following of God through Christ Jesus, Earth is not your ultimate home. Treating your family like the blessing they are is the best way to maximize your limited time here.

Christian Weight Loss: Two Quick Success Strategies

Do you often have issues with food temptations? To handle them, keep in mind a key principle of Christian weight loss success: The best way to win a fight is to avoid getting into one. If you constantly keep food temptations in your environment, you are making losing weight harder than it has to be.

To lose weight most efficiently, keep the following two quick tips in mind:

1. Create a healthy “safety zone” at home

At home, you can make eating healthy convenient by batch cooking once a week. Often, a major roadblock to eating healthy is being too busy to cook. However, you can pick one day each week and broil chicken, oven fry fish, bake sweet potatoes, or prepare vegetables. Then, freeze the food in individual serving containers. During the hectic weekdays, simply retrieve one of the containers from the freezer and reheat it in the microwave.

Another tip is to avoid bringing the higher calorie snack items into your environment as competition. If you do buy a higher calorie snack item, then purchase a small size. This is built-in portion control.

2. Create a healthy “safety zone” away from home

Creating a healthy safety zone with fast food restaurants begins at their website. Many restaurants post their menus and nutritional information for each item. Reviewing this information before you go can help you make a better decision because you won’t have tempting food smells clouding your judgment. Once you’ve decided what to order, then go to the drive thru to make your purchase. This will be additional insurance to ensure that you stick with your decision.

So remember that to succeed with Christian weight loss success, you need to plan for it. You’ll lose the weight and enjoy yourself as you slim down!
